Arnold, MD - An incredible offensive performance in the first half allowed the Dragons to cruise to a comfortable 106-70 over the Anne Arundel Riverhawks. This is the second time the Dragons have scored in triple digits, both times against the Riverhawks after a 108-47 victory early in the season.
The start of the game could not have gone any better for the Dragons as they scored 35 points in the first 10 minutes of the contest, shooting 77% from the field during that time. While the shooting cooled off a bit, the ability to pound the ball into the paint proved effective with Howard scoring 60 points in the paint for the game.
The Dragon starters played limited minutes in the game, but
Ethan Wilson (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park) still led the team with 16 points on 6-7 shooting while
Koby Baptiste (New Carrollton, MD/Parkdale) scored 14 on 7-8 shooting.
Shane Taylor (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) and
Trea Keys (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) each scored 12 points off the bench to lead a bench that scored 58 points in the game.
Kahleem Jennings (Severn, MD/Meade) added nine points while
Benjamin Murphy (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin),
Marquis Freeman (Manassas, VA/Fork Union Prep),
Jalen Bowie (Frederick, MD/Frederick), and
Stephen Doar (Juba, South Sudan/Minnesota Prep) all scored seven points each.
Howard improves to 21-4 on the season and have now won 9 of their last 10 games with just two games left in the regular season.
Howard will next take on the College of Southern Maryland in their penultimate regular season game which will prove important in the regional tournament seeding as the Dragons can clinch the #1 seed in the tournament with a victory. The game will be played at CCBC Dundalk in a neutral site game and is set for a 7 PM tip-off on Friday, February 24.
