Dragons Clinch Top Four Finish With Win

Dundalk, MD - The Howard has secured themselves a top four finish in the regional standings thanks to a confident 68-44 win over the College of Southern Maryland Hawks.

A slow start to the game saw the Dragons jump out to a 9-0 lead before the Hawks finally scored their first points nearly eight minutes into the game. Howard never looked back as they took a 15-5 lead after the first quarter and held a double digit lead for the entire rest of the contest; leading by as much as 27.

Mikiyah Mallett (Pasadena, MD/Old Mill) came through with another monster game as the freshman forward scored 20 points with 13 rebounds and three steals. Nhaikyia Smith (Waldorf, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists as she flirted with a triple-double. Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) hit four from long range, scoring 14 points with eight rebounds and three blocks. Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/Charles H. Flowers) added nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. 

The Dragons honored their four sophomores before the game including the injured India Young (Sprindgale, MD/Charles H. Flowers), along with fellow classmates Julia Harrington (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City College), Sarah Deese (Woodbine, MD/Century), and Corkeron. Deese scored five points and four assists in the game while Harrington chipped in two points and 10 rebounds. 

Howard will close out their regular season schedule with a non-divisional game at Harford on Tuesday, February 28 at 5 PM. The two teams faced off earlier in the season with the Dragons winning at home 66-40 back on November 29.
