Dragons Blast Herkimer 25-7

Columbia, MD – The Dragons were able to grab an early lead for the first time this season which fueled a commanding victory over the Herkimer Generals by the score of 25-7.
 
Nate Boone (Elkridge, MD/Howard) pulled the strings for the Dragons in the first quarter, assisting on the first two Zane Dalpe (Belle River, ON/Saint Anne) goals then scoring a couple followed by an assist to Alex Hudgins (Towson, MD/Mount Saint Joesph) as Boone was in on the first five Howard goals of the game. Calum Brennan (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) scored with just under a minute remaining followed by a Hudgins goal in the last 10 seconds of the quarter gave Howard the 7-2 first quarter lead.
 
Herkimer made a 3-1 run early in the second quarter to cut the Dragon lead down to three with five minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Dragons finished the quarter off strong as Brennan scored before seeing up Dalpe. In the last two minutes of the half, Dalpe assisted on a couple of Boone goals as they Dragons had reaffirmed their lead at 12-5 going into halftime.
 
The Dragons dominated the second half, out scoring the Generals 13-2 over the final 30 minutes as the Howard attackers were all able to pad their season stats. Dalpe finished the day with nine goals and three assists while Boone had a six goal, five assist day. Brennan chipped in four goals and two assists while Hudgins scored three goals with a couple of assists.
 
Charlie Wendel (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) earned his first start in goal for the season, making four saves to earn the win. Braden Chaney (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) saw time in the second half making seven saves to close the game out.
 
The Dragons will now hit the road for a contest at Delaware Tech on Wednesday, March 22 at 6 PM.
