Columbia, MD - The Dragons played a fantastic three sets in their first "home" game at Atholton High School, defeating the Frederick Cougars 25-9, 25-14, 25-19.

Howard jumped out to a great start with five straight points as freshman Makayla Holland (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) tallied a couple of aces in the run. The Dragons continued to dominate the set and made a statement in the opener. 

Frederick started to find their rhythm in the second set as they trailed 17-15 before a big five point run by the Dragons gave Howard the comfortable lead they needed to take the 2-0 lead. The third set saw some prolonged points where the defensive skills of freshman libero Stefamae Barquillia (Philippines/Einstein) on display along with a couple of nice blocks by sophomore Ashlee Ford as the Dragons closed the match out in style with a huge Lal Mawi (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) spike.

Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/Flowers) led the attack for the Dragons once again with eight kills while Mawi was close behind with seven. Barquillia finished with 13 digs while Holland added 10 digs to go with her 13 assists and five aces.

The Dragons will have little time to celebrate as they host Potomac State on Wednesday, August 30 for a 7 PM match at Atholton High School.
