North East, MD – The Cecil Seahawks held the Dragons scoreless for nearly 85 minutes before Howard was finally able to break through, coming away with a 2-0 victory.
The Dragons dominated possession and chances throughout the game as
Trace Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) hit the post with a shot just four minutes into the game. Howard continued to pile on the shorts as
Diego Ruiz (Odenton, MD/Meade),
Kyle Simmons (Laurel, MD/Atholton), and
Boubacar Sissoko (Beltsville, MD/High Point) all had good chances saved by the Seahawks' net minder.
More of the same ensued after halftime as
Fousseiny Diallo (Mali/AISB) and
Kai Onabiyi (Netherlands/) had early chances saved. The Dragons went on a shooting gallery late as the 80
th minute saw Howard pile on six consecutive shots on goal. The salvation finally came in the form of
Jason Fuentes (Columbia, MD/Hammond) who hit a long, curling shot over the Cecil keeper and into the net.
Howard added an insurance goal in the last minute of the game as a Diallo run through the box allowed him to slide the ball over to Norton for a close range shot into the net to close out the game.
Danny Ventura (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) played the whole 90 minutes for the Dragons, making four saves to pick up the win.
The Dragons will get to finally host their home opener when the Montgomery Raptors come to town on Thursday, September 7 at 4 PM.
