Dragons Win at Prince George's 2-1

Largo, MDDanny Ventura (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) made a huge save late in the game to preserve the win for the Dragons men's soccer team on the road against the Prince George's Owls by the score of 2-1.

Freshman Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) opened up the scoring in the first half when he netted his first goal of the season in the 30th minute of play, making it a score of 1-0 over the Owls. Howard took 12 shots in the first half, continuing to dominate on offense over Prince George's. The Dragons found themselves leading the Owls 2-0 early on, after landing themselves a corner kick made by Abderrahim Mounaji (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial), which led to a goal made by Jason Fuentes (Columbia, MD/Hammond) in the 37th minute, making that his third goal of the season. With numerous physical fouls and a total of six yellow cards awarded to the two teams, the Dragons remained resilient until the first half was complete.

The Owls found themselves a spot on the board in the 52nd minute of play with a goal made by Chukuwuma Maduwuba. Keeping possession for much of the second half, the Dragons continued to hammer shots at the Owls' goalie Bilel Odeh.

Time continued to wind down in the match as the Owls earned a free kick near the Dragons 18 yard box. The shot taken at the 85th minute by Owls Freshman Anthony Garcia was saved by Ventura, who took over between the pipes after halftime, for his third save of the match. Howard gained possession of the ball over the final two minutes of the match with several more close attempts at goal, but were able to close out the win.

An intense finale for the Dragons and Owls, but Howard ultimately took home the win on the road with a 2-1 score over Prince George's. The Dragons improve to 3-3 on the season and gain some much needed momentum as they face Harford Community College on Friday, September 15th, in Bel Air, MD where kickoff starts at 4:00 P.M.
