Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) assisted one goal and scored another to push the Dragons past the Essex County Wolverines 2-0 in a hard fought Sunday matinee.
The first half of play was a battle in the midfield as both sides struggled to get good scoring chances as the ball stayed in the middle of the park for the majority of time.
Howard broke the tie just after halftime as a cross by
Fousseiny Diallo (Mali/AISB) was helped along by Norton to
Jason Fuentes (Columbia, MD/Hammond) who powered home his team leading fifth goal of the season.
The goal opened up play more as both teams saw increased chances in the second half with the Dragons nearly missing on several chances while also being saved by the post on a Wolverine breakaway.
Norton put the game away in the 81st minute as a picture perfect cross by
Mateo Moore (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was headed in by the freshman forward for his fourth goal of the season to provide the all important insurance goal.Â
Jesse Sanchez (Laurel, MD/Laurel) made one save as he recorded the complete game shutout.
The Dragons will stay at home as part of a busy week beginning with the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, September 26 at 2 PM.
