Columbia, MD - The Dragons out shot their opponents 19-13, but were unable to find the back of the net as they fell to the Frederick Cougars 2-0. The Dragons fall to 5-7 on the year and 2-4 in regional play.
Howard dominated the first 15 minutes of play with
Jason Fuentes (Columbia, MD/Hammond) putting a couple of shots strong shots on goal along with several other good chances from
Chris Herzog (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) and
Mateo Moore (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills). Against the run of play, Frederick struck for a goal in the 16th minute to take the early 1-0 lead.
Frederick grew into the game after that goal, forcing goalkeeper
Jesse Sanchez (Laurel, MD/Laurel) into some really good saves while also asking a lot of the defensive line with a constant barrage of long balls over the top.
The Dragons had some solid chances in the second half, but proved susceptible to a late counter attack by the Cougars who were able to add a late insurance goal to put the game away.
Howard will look to rebound when they host Carroll CC on Saturday, September 30 at 4 PM.
