Columbia, MD - Howard Community College's women's soccer team dropped their fourth straight game on Saturday, falling to the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 5-0.
Howard struggled to move the ball in the first half, getting off just one shot. The Riverhawks struck early twice, but a staunch defensive effort by the Dragons kept Anne Arundel from adding more goals.
The second half saw improved offensive production from the Dragons.
Jennifer Reyes (Columbia, MD/Capital City) managed three shots, while
Yoselin Ortiz Cruz (Alexandria, VA/Alexandria City) got off a shot as well. After adding an early goal, the Riverhawks would break the game open with two more scores, pulling away to a 5-0 win.
One bright spot for the Dragons was goalkeeper
Alexa Sosa (Laurel, MD/Laurel), who made her first start of the season after sitting out the first half of the year with an ankle injury. Sosa recorded 14 saves in her first start.
The match was the final home game of the season, and the last home game for Howard's sophomore players.
Ashley Osorio (Laurel, MD/Laurel),
Aquetzali Hernandez-Tapia (Bladensburg, MD/Bladensburg),
Yoselin Ortiz Cruz (Alexandria, VA/Alexandria City),
Lucy Segovia (Adelphi, MD/High Point), and
Kehinde Akinsehinwa (Baltimore, MD/Prince & Princess International Academy) were honored after the game for their time with the Dragons.
