It's Raining Double-Doubles! JV Basketball Sets New Program High in Points!

Madison, NJ - Howard Community College's JV men's basketball team set a new program record for points scored last Friday in an 82-61 loss to Drew University.

Playing in their second game in as many days, the Dragons showed much improvement over their program debut the previous night. Two Howard players recorded double-doubles, giving the young team three of the accomplishments through two games. The Dragons outscored the Rangers 43-42 in the second half, setting a new program high of 61 points in the loss.

Howard came out strong against the Rangers, keeping the game low-scoring and close through the opening minutes. A Ranger surge led to a 40-18 halftime lead, but the Dragons came roaring back in the second half. Bolstered by much-improved shooting and four three-pointers, the Dragons' offense woke up and out-played the Rangers. For the second straight game, Howard recorded 49 rebounds and set a new program high in assists with 13. Despite the loss, the Dragons showed that they can play tough.

Three Dragons scored in double-digits. Bliden Elung (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) finished with a double-double, recording 15 points (a new single-game program high) and 12 rebounds. Elung also added three assists and three steals. Darius Dorsey (Laurel, MD/Home School) recorded the other double-double, dropping 12 points and ten rebounds. Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) set a new career high with 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while Nehemiah Smith (Bronx, NY/Laurel) added eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Stewart Long (Annapolis, MD/Springdale Prep) added six rebounds and five points, while Kyle Simmons (Columbia, MD/Atholton) scooped up five rebounds off the bench and added his second three-pointer of the season.

The Dragons return to Maryland for their next game, facing West Nottingham Prep on Friday, November 22 at 4:00 PM.
