JV Basketball Makes Debut, Smith Drops Double-Double

Dallas, PA - History was made last Thursday night as the Howard Community College Dragons JV men's basketball team made their grand debut!

The Dragons traveled to Dallas, Pennsylvania to face Misericordia University. Despite a double-double by forward Nehemiah Smith (Bronx, NY/Laurel), the Dragons fell 95-44.

Darius Dorsey (Laurel, MD/Home School) put his name in the record books with the first points in program history, but his shot would be the only lead the Dragons would have all game. Howard struggled to connect with the rim, ending the first half trailing 51-20. The second half saw an improved offensive performance from the Dragons, including the first three-pointer in program history courtesy of Kyle Simmons (Columbia, MD/Atholton). Misericordia's near-perfect shooting kept the lead at around 40 points, and the Cougars rolled to a 95-44 win.

Nehemiah Smith (Bronx, NY/Laurel) finished the night with the first double-double in program history, recording ten points and 14 rebounds. He also recorded four blocks. Darius Dorsey (Laurel, MD/Home School) added ten points and four rebounds. Bliden Elung (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills), fresh off an excellent season in men's soccer, nearly scored a double-double himself. Elung notched nine points and 12 rebounds. Stewart Long (Annapolis, MD/Springdale Prep) added six rebounds, while Kyle Simmons (Columbia, MD/Atholton) had six boards and the game's lone three-pointer off the bench.

The Dragons will continue their road trip to open the season against Drew University on Friday, November 15 at 7:00 PM.
