Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Struggling with Turnovers, Dragons Fall to Bobcats

Columba MD - Howard Community College's women's basketball team wrapped up their weekend double-header on Sunday, falling to Bryant & Stratton College 78-27.

The Dragons had their toughest game of the young season, scoring a season-low 27 points and committing a season-high 40 turnovers, the most in a game since 42 turnovers were committed against CCBC Essex in 2019.

Howard's turnover troubles hit right at the start, as the Dragons turned the ball over four times in the first two minutes. The Bobcats turned these turnovers into an 11-0 lead and never looked back. Howard's first points came off the back of Hannah Chambers (Columbia, MD/Hammond), who was the one Dragon able to get inside all afternoon. Chambers was responsible for all four first-quarter points for the Dragons, who trailed 22-4 after one.

The Dragons focused on getting the ball to their best scorers in the second quarter, with Asaani Offer (Annapolis, MD/Catonsville) and Nicole Forbes (Reston, VA/South Lakes) each scoring twice. But a steady stream of turnovers prevented any meaningful comeback, and Howard trailed 46-13 at the half.

The third quarter saw the Dragons score a single point off a Mariah Ruth (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey) free throw. While their turnover troubles slowed down, the Dragons struggled to find the net shooting-wise. Howard went 0-10 from the floor in the third, while Bryant & Stratton continued to poor it on. Howard's offense finally started to click in the third, with 13 total points scored. The highlight of the game came in the final minute: freshman Avery Richardson (Beltsville, MD/High Point) notched her first collegiate points as she hit a free throw, then scored off a rebounded shot seconds later.

Hannah Chambers (Columbia, MD/Hammond) finished as the leading scorer for the Dragons, knocking down ten points, five rebounds, and three steals. Asaani Offer (Annapolis, MD/Catonsville) added seven points and nine rebounds, while McKenzi Walters (Falls Church, VA/George C. Marshall) added six rebounds and a block.

Howard's loss moves the Dragons to 1-3 on the season. The Dragons next face Allegany College of Maryland to open their conference opponents on Wednesday, December 4 at 5:00 PM.
