Wye Mills, MD - Resilient and determined, the Howard Community College Dragons rallied from behind to defeat the Chesapeake College Skipjacks 70-63 on Friday night. With the win, Howard improves to 15-6 on the season, and currently holds fourth place in the region with a 10-3 record.
Howard kept the Skipjacks in close range during the first quarter, but the slow start put them behind, and they entered into the second frame trailing 16-12. The second half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams exchanging baskets and neither able to pull away. Determined to come out on top, the Dragons able to pull away in the final seconds and went into halftime with a 33-32 lead.
Following Halftime, scoring between the Dragons and Skipjacks changed often. Chesapeake capitalized on Dragons errors to retake a 50-46 lead in the third quarter, but Howard refused to fold. Howard remained resilient in the final ten minutes of the game, locking the Skipjacks down defensively and making clutch shots allowed the Dragons to slowly chip away at the deficit. Howard ultimately kept the Skipjacks from growing their lead and secured the victory, 70-63.
The Dragons are looking ahead to their final regular season game against the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville. The Cardinals currently hold first place in the region, with a 19-4 record on the season and a 10-2 record in the region. The Dragons currently hold fourth place in the region, with a 15-6 record on the season and a 10-3 record in the region.
Howard will travel down to Catonsville, MD, on Wednesday, February 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 PM.
