Howard Season Ends With 89-77 Loss to Morris

DANVILLE, IL –  The fantastic 2023-2024 season for the Howard Community College men's basketball team came to an end as they fell to the #19 seed County College of Morris by the score of 89-77 in the consolation round.

The Dragons got out to another slow start with the only points over the opening four minutes coming from a Jalen Bowie (Frederick, MD/Frederick) put back layup. Howard fell behind by seven, but saw back-to-back layups by O'Meech Wilson (Glen Burnie, MD/North County) followed by a Ryan Conway (Towson, MD/Dulaney) three pointer to get the Dragons within one. The Titans answered back with a small run of their own that was countered by a nice drive and dish by Jaden Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Dr. Henry A. Wise) to find Andrew Mills (Owings Mills, MD/New Town) for a layup.

Howard was finally able to tie the game up with seven minutes left in the first half as Mills swatted a tip into the basket at 23-23. Mills and Bowie made a nice give and go on the next play to give the Dragons their first lead. The two teams battled back and forth with more fouls being called then baskets made, but late layups by Arthur Roache (Washington, DC/Theodore Roosevelt) and Johnson had the Dragons down 36-34 at halftime.

The Titans came out of the halftime break shooting hot as they hit 57% from the field while also making 19 free throws. Conway nailed a trio of three pointers and Wilson was able to bully his way in the paint, but the Dragons faltered late as the Titans opened up a double digit lead.

Wilson led the team with 16 points and 7 rebounds in his final game as a Dragon. Conway scored 13 while Mills finished his amazing two-year career with another double-double as he scored 13 with 10 rebounds. Bowie scored 11 points while Arthur Roache (Washington, DC/Theodore Roosevelt) scored 9 off the bench.

The Dragons will look to reload while saying goodbye to a dynamic and impactful sophomore class.
