Dragons Fall 2-0 To Red Barons On The Road

Corning, NY - The Howard Community College softball team was shut out 2-0 by the Red Barons of Corning Community College. The Dragons now sit at 3-15 on the season.

GAME ONE
The Dragons could not get anything going on offense against Corning, culminating only three hits and four walks in five frames. Corning able to push across a single run in the eighth inning, scoring on the throw to pick up the 1-0 win against Howard.

Howard last got a runner on third in the top of the third, after Reagan Perkes hit a ground ball, that allowed Micah Howell (Columbia, MD/Atholton) to advance to third. Perkes able to take Howell's place in third, but Howell, however, wasn't so lucky and was tagged out at home plate.

Jordan Bayles (Laurel, MD/Spencerville Adventist), Alyssa Kelly (Laurel, MD/Reservoir), and Howell recorded the Dragons three.

Starting pitcher Kat Wisor (Crofton, MD/Arundel) went eight innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.

GAME TWO
The Dragons offense came alive in the second game, but just not enough to overcome Red Barons, and ultimately fall 18-12.

Howard pushed two runs across the board first, on three hits. But able to answer back immediately, Corning followed up with three runs of their own to take the lead.

In the second, Holly Ryan (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) scored off of a Pence RBI, along with two more runs scored by Jordan Bayles (Laurel, MD/Spencerville Adventist) and Reagan Perkes off a Wisor RBI double. Able to switch the field, Corning found their sweet spot on offense and pushed nine runs across the board, giving them a 12-5 advantage.

Howard clawed back for four more runs to cut into the deficit, making it a 12-9 game, but not to be silenced were the Red Barons, adding two more increase the deficit once more.

An RBI double in the fourth by Perkes, scored Madeline Lackey (Manchester, MD/Manchester Valley) and Ryan. But Corning finally shut the door on the Dragons with three back-to-back RBI singles, and a homerun to complete the win.

Perkes led the way with four hits, followed by Wisor and Lackey with two. Wisor and Perkes combined to tally seven RBI.

Next up, the Dragons will head to Scranton, PA, to take on the Falcons of Lackawanna College on Wednesday, March 27 for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
