Dragons Shut Down Riverhawks in Regular Season Finale

ARNOLD, MD - In the regular season finale at the stadium they were looking to get familiar with for the regional tournament, the Dragons were able to shut down the Anne Arundel Riverhawks by the score of 14-4. Howard improves to 3-8 on the season and 1-2 in regional play as they enter the postseason as the #3 seed in the region.

Howard got out to a fantastic start, particularly on the defensive end where the defensive trio of Tyler Readinger (Chicago, IL/Huntley), Kobe Brown (Chicago, IL/Lakes Community), and Jameson Smith (Sykesville, MD/Century) along with Mason Bowler (Noblesville, IN/Nobelsville) and the goalkeepeing of Braden Chaney (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) shut out the Riverhawks in the first half. The Dragons offense fount a lot of success in the first quarter as goals by Gianni Karam (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron), Joe Hathaway (New Market, MD/Oakdale), Trent Hillis (Sykesville, MD/Century), and two from Joe Patti (Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips) had Howard flying. Hillis added a second goal in the second quarter followed by a man-up goal by Cyrus Frid-Denikos (Elkridge, MD/Howard) to put Howard ahead 7-0 at halftime.

Anne Arundel started to make a comeback early in the third quarter, but a couple of goals by Karam to finish his hat trick and three late goals by Hathaway were able to seal the deal.

Brown was the standout defender on the day, with six groundballs and a couple caused turnovers while locking down the Anne Arundel best attacker. Erik Harrell (Ownings Mills, MD/Century) and Rory Blanchard (New Market, MD/Oakdale) combined to go 18-22 in the face-off while Chaney made 11 saves to pick up the win.

The Dragons will return to Anne Arundel Community College to take part in the Region 20 tournament semifinals on Friday, April 26 at 5 PM where they will take on the #2 seed CCBC Essex Knights at 5 PM.
