Westminster, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons made it two in a row on Friday afternoon, defeating Carroll Community College 5-1.
Led by a pair of goals from
Sam Santos (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills), the Dragons dominated the game from start to finish. While their persuit of two consecutive shutouts to start the season was thwarted by a late Carroll goal, the Dragons still move to second in Region 20 Division II.
After a fairly quiet opening 15 minutes, the Dragons struck first when Santos scored off an pass from
Jefferson Estrada (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern). Howard struck again just five minutes before halftime, as
Fode Doumbouya (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) sent a pass from
Rafa Benetiz (Hyattsville, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt)Â into the net.
Leading 2-0 after the half, the Dragons quickly struck as Santos scored his second goal of the game. Carroll wouldn't let the game slip away, as Daniel Wojtkowiak scored ten mintues after Santos' goal. Benetiz immediately responded by scoring his first goal of the season, making it 4-1.
Truce Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) added an insurance goal with four minutes left, finalizing the score at 5-1.
Santos finished with two goals, three shots on goal, and four total shots. Benetiz had a goal, two shots on goal, and two assists. Norton recorded five shots, three shots on goal, and the final goal.
Next up for the Dragons after the Labor Day break is a home matchup with CCBC Catonsville on September 5 at 4PM.
