Dragons Come Up Just Short to Lynx

Westminster, MD - Howard Community College's women's soccer team came up just short in their second contest of the season, losing 3-2 to Carroll Community College.

The Dragons managed to keep up with the Lynx in both shots and saves for the first half, taking an early lead on an own goal. However, out of the half the Lynx pounced. Carroll's Haley Greenwade scored three quick goals to make it 3-1.

Howard would not be held back this time, as Yocelin Ortiz Cruz notched the first offensive goal of the season in the 68th minute. The Dragons kept up the pressure throughout the second half, but were unable to get past Carroll goalkeeper Chloe Herpel.

Despite the loss, the Dragons played valiently. Unable to make subs, the starting eleven played the entire contest. Kaily Ok (Hanover, MD/Marriotts Ridge) managed four shots and two shots on goal. Cruz's lone shot was a goal, while Jennifer Reyes (Columbia, MD/Capital City) managed four shots. Goalkeeper Kehinde Akinsehinwa (Baltimore, MD/Prince & Princess International Academy), filling in for the Dragons, recorded six amazing saves including a diving save in the first half.

Next up for the Dragons is a match with Allegany College of Maryland on September 7 at 2PM.
