Complete Domination: Dragons Rout Hawks for Third Straight Win!

Columbia, MD - It was nothing but domination on Saturday for the Howard Community College Dragons men's basketball team as they blew-out the College of Southern Maryland 94-42.

The Dragons dropped a season-high 94 points, while holding the Hawks to just eight points in the first half. Every member of the Dragons scored points, with four players scoring in double-digits. On defense, the Dragons forced 25 turnovers and scooped up 50 rebounds while only recording seven personal fouls.

Howard erupted to a 10-0 start before Southern Maryland finally scored their first points. The Dragons kept the pressure up, building their first-half lead to 36 while holding the Hawks to single digits/ The Dragons dropped five three-pointers on the Hawks, while Myles McDuffie (Baltimore, MD/Lake Clifton) led the team with ten points in the half.

 With the win all-but sealed, the Dragons rested their starters for the second half, giving several bench players a chance to shine. Christian Dean (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) and Colin Harshman (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) both dropped multiple three-pointers, while Kanye McMahon (Lexington Park, MD/Chopticon) and Jasper Hanna (Washington, DC/E.L. Haynes) both set new career-highs in points. McMahon had the moment of the game when he brought the arena to its' feet with a posterizing dunk. Every Dragon scored at least two points in the half, with Dean leading all scorers with nine points in a 52-point win.

McDuffie finished as the leading scorer for the Dragons with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Dean had 14 points on four threes, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals, while Sincere Barfield (Baltimore, MD/Patterson) scored 14 points and four assists off the bench. Jaden Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Dr. Henry A. Wise) scored ten points, three assists, and two steals, while Arthur Roaché notched eight points and seven rebounds. Emanuel Henriques (Baltimore, MD/Benjamin Franklin) led the team in rebounds with ten, while also dropping seven points and two steals. Colin Harshman (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) hit two threes for six points and three rebounds, while Truth Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) returned from injury to drop six points on just eight minutes. Anthony Djami (Paris, France/Brequigny) was a rock on defense with four points, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal, while Jasper Hanna (Washington, DC/E.L. Haynes) dropped seven rebounds and two assists.

Howard's victory moved the Dragons to 10-4 on the season and moved them into fourth-place in Region 20 Division II. The Dragons next face a tough battle as they host Garrett College on Wednesday, January 15 at 10:00 AM in a potential playoff preview!
