Bel Air, MD - For the first time in 2025, the Howard Community College Dragons completed a Region 20 game without a win, as they suffered a stunning 1-1 tie to the Division I Harford Fighting Owls.
HCC fought hard throughout Tuesday's game, but struggled to score following the first half. The contest was a tough, defensive grind with multiple yellow cards and gritty personal battles.
The Dragons struck first off a
Kiar Sani (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church) goal, courtesy of a nifty pass from
Yeabsira Tesfaye (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church). The 1-0 lead lasted for just a minute, as the Fighting Owls struck to tie the contest entering the half. The second half saw both teams take big shots at each other, but neither could break through their opposing goalies.
Predrag Ilic (Nis, Serbia/Gymnasium Stevan Sremac) led the Dragons with three shots, while
Nicholas Mirecki (Glenelg, MD/Glenelg) scored two shots on goal. The Dragons defense did their job, limiting Harford's ability to get close to keep
Jonathan Sanchez (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron).
The Dragons next face CCBC Essex on Thursday, with the number one seed in the Region 20 playoffs on the line. Kickoff will be at 1:00 PM!
