Dragons Wrap Up Cross Country Season at Stacked Regionals

Youngwood, PA - The 2025 cross country season wrapped up last weekend for the Howard Community College Dragons, as they participated in the 2025 NJCAA Region 20 Championships!

The Dragons entered both their men's and women's teams in Saturday's meet, with the men looking to defend their Region 20 crown from last season. Both races would prove to be tough challenges, as the competition in Region 20 had doubled from where it was last year.

The Dragons' men's team finished fifth overall in the Division II race, with Samuel Venegas (Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) leading the way. The freshman runner finished sixth overall with a time of 29:08.80. Ben Fry (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) was second for the Dragons, finishing 14th overall with a 30:27.00, while Matthew Calinda (Hanover, MD/Meade) came home third for the Dragons with a 32:48.00, good enough for 22nd overall. All five Dragons runners finished the contest.

In the women's race, the Dragons would finish eighth overall. Katy Spence (Jessup, MD/Meade) led the way for HCC with a 25:35.80 to finish 19th overall. Taneya Watson (Bowie, MD/CMIT Academy) came home 28th, with her 31:21.70 second best for the Dragons.

The Dragons will next gear up for the outdoor track season, which is scheduled to begin on March 7!
