Strong Second Half Sees Dragons Overcome Garrett

McHenry, MD - A massive second-half rally saw the Howard Community College Dragons take down the Garrett College Lakers last Thursday in their second game of a stacked doubleheader.

Just one day after a tough blowout loss to WVU Potomac State College, the Dragons rallied against the Lakers to get back above .500. Three different Dragons scored in double digits, with London Galbraith (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy) reaching double digits for the first time in five games.

Howard struggled shooting wise in the first half, but capitalized on Garrett mistakes to keep the contest close. a 17-10 deficit in the first quarter was extended to double digits by the Lakers thanks to excellent three-point shooting. In the closing stages of the second quarter, the Dragons began to crawl back into the fight. Solid shooting from Galbraith and Jolie Hamilton (Baltimore, MD/Forest Park) got the Dragons back within seven at the half.

Howard's defense came alive in the second half, holding the Lakers to just three points in the third and eight points in the fourth. Combined with solid shooting from their three top scorers, the Dragons surged back to take the lead. A late Garrett rally wasn't enough, as Howard held on to win by 14 at the end.

Galbraith finished with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) continued her solid shooting with 15 points, four assists, two blocks, and three steals. Hamilton secured a double-double with 13 points and eleven rebounds, while Hannah Chambers (Columbia, MD/Hammond) added four points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Emmanuella Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) added seven rebounds in an excellent defensive night.

The Dragons will next face Harford Community College in the Harford Classic on Friday, December 19 at 7:00 PM.
