Columbia, MD - Region 20's longest winning streak got a bit longer Monday night, as the Howard Community College Dragons defeated the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 71-47 for their thirteenth-straight win.
Howard overcame a tricky start and a tough Riverhawks team to extend their record to 20-4 on the season. Highlighting the win was yet another double-digit performance from
Christian Dean (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach), along with four more double-digit scorers for the Dragons.
It wasn't the start the Dragons wanted to Monday's game, as Anne Arundel came out swinging. The Riverhawks went back-and-forth with the Dragons in the opening ten minutes, before a big three-pointer by Arthur Roaché pushed the lead to double-digits. The Dragons slowly pulled away from the Riverhawks, relying heavily on
Christian Dean's (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) impressive play making in the paint. Dean hit several massive contested shots to give Howard some breathing room. The Dragons led 30-18 at the half in a low-scoring affair.
Dean and Roaché stayed hot to start the second, building the Dragons lead to 20 points. Anne Arundel had several chances to lower the lead to single-digits, but just couldn't break through the Dragons defense. With the lead secured, the Dragons emptied the bench to close out the victory, with
Savion Gowder's (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) layup putting the cherry on top an excellent win for Howard.
Dean hit five threes and scored 17 points along with his seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Roaché scored 14 points off the bench, along with three rebounds and two assists.
Jaden Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Dr. Henry A. Wise) added eleven points and three assists, while
Emanuel Henriques (Baltimore, MD/Benjamin Franklin) notched ten points, four rebounds, four blocks, and two steals.
Truth Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) added ten points, and
Anthony Djami (Paris, France/Brequigny) added seven reboubds and three assists.
The Dragons next face Prince George's Community College on Tuesday, February 18 at 7:00 PM.
