Columbia, MD - It was another successful night for the Howard Community College Dragons on Monday as they defeated the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 70-31.
The Dragons put together one of their most complete games of the season, leading from wire to wire. Howard held the Riverhawks to single digits in three of the four quarters, recorded 53 rebounds, hit eight three-pointers, and forced 38 turnovers. Howard's win was their tenth straight on the season, moving the Dragons to 14-7 on the year.
The contest was never in doubt for the Dragons, as they raced out to a 24-8 start. Led by an explosive 12 first quarter points from
Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, FL/Long Reach), the Dragons locked down Anne Arundel's outside-shooting. Howard's bench played brilliantly, out-scoring the Riverhawks bench 41-2. Highlights of the blowout win include a career-high four three-pointers from
Kayden Jeselskis (Baltimore, MD/Rosedale Christian Academy) and a career-high 14 minute game from
Avery Richardson (Beltsville, MD/High Point). The Dragons led by as high as 40, with the bench playing the majority of the fourth quarter.
Mariah Ruth (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey) was the leading scorer for the Dragons with 13 points, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Putman had her 12 points, along with two rebounds and four steals.
Kayden Jeselskis (Baltimore, MD/Rosedale Christian Academy) added 12 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while
Nicole Forbes (Reston, VA/South Lakes) managed ekeven points, two assists and three steals.
Tamir Whittle (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) had a good game off the bench with eight points, four rebounds, and four assists.
McKenzi Walters (Falls Church, VA/George C. Marshall) dominated defensively, recording 13 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Asaani Offer (Annapolis, MD/Catonsville) added nine rebounds, four assists, and a team-leading five steals.
The Dragons next face their toughest remaining test as they face Prince George's Community College in a top-five Region 20 showdown. Tip-off will be at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, February 18 at PG.
