Absolute Domination: Dragons Blowout Cardinals in Rematch!

Columbia, MD - It was a non-contest on Wednesday night as the Howard Community College Dragons dominated the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals 86-40 in their regular season finale.

The Dragons came into Wednesday's contest eyeing the #1 seed in the upcoming Region 20 tournament. In a rematch of last year's tournament title game, the Dragons led by as much as 47. Howard out-rebounded the Cardinals 46-32, forced 28 turnovers, and never trailed. The second half saw the Dragons put together a defensive masterclass, holding the Cardinals to just 18 points.

Howard jumped out to a 20-8 lead halfway through the first half and never looked back. Behind stellar nights from Emanuel Henriques (Baltimore, MD/Benjamin Franklin), Sincere Barfield (Philadelphia, PA/Patterson), and Anthony Djami (Paris, France/Brequigny), the Dragons created a 17-point lead at the half, and continued their momentum into the second. The closest Catonsville would come was early in the second when they pulled within 12. Howard turned on the jets and pulled away, while completely shutting down Catonsville's offense. Late in the game, the Dragons emptied their bench and brought the crowd to their feet. Colin Harshman (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) sank his first three-point attempt of the night, and Savion Gowder (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) slammed back-to-back dunks, including one over the head of a Catonsville defender.

Henriques finished as the leading scorer with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Barfield scored 14 points, two rebounds, and seven assists, while Djami added ten points, nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Christian Dean (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) added nine points and two steals, while Arthur Roaché had a great game with nine points and four rebounds. Savion Gowder (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) scored seven points off the bench alongside four rebounds. Jaden Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Dr. Henry A. Wise) managed five points, four steals, and six assists.

The Dragons clinched the #1 seed based off the win and Montgomery College's loss to Cecil later in the evening. They will rematch Catonsville to open the Region 20 tournament on Thursday, March 6.
