Frederick, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons won their eleventh-straight game on Saturday, defeating Frederick Community College 69-57.
Behind an excellent day from sophomore Arthur Roaché, the Dragons continued their domination of Region 20. Four Dragons scored in double-digits as Howard pulled away from a back-and-forth first half to take control in the second. The Dragons victory keeps them hot on the toes of Region 20 leader Montgomery College.
The Dragons flexed their muscle early with a 7-0 run to open the contest. Their momentum would not hold for long as a scrappy Frederick team fought back to tie things up halfway through the first half. The Cougars started to build up a lead, but Roaché slammed a pair of threes to put the Dragons back on top. Roaché and
Savion Gowder (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) hit a pair of jumpers, and a
Colin Harshman (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) three built Howard's advantage back to double-digits.
The Dragons exploded out of the gate in the second, outscoring Frederick 10-3 in the opening five minutes. Howard's lead ballooned to 22, but the Cougars weren't going down without a fight. Behind solid three-point shooting, the Cougars closed the gap to just nine points with less than four minutes left. The Dragons finally responded, capitalizing on Frederick fouls to rebuild their lead.
Anthony Djami's (Paris, France/Brequigny) jumper with a minute and a half to go iced the contest for the Dragons.
Roaché notched his most points since December with 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.
Emanuel Henriques (Baltimore, MD/Benjamin Franklin) added 12 points, while Djami scored a double-double with ten points and eleven rebounds.
Truth Norton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) added ten points, while
Christian Dean (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) had a solid game with seven points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Jaden Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Dr. Henry A. Wise) added six points.
The Dragons get a week off before facing Harford Community College on Friday, February 7 at 7:00 PM.
