Frid-Denikos to the Rescue: Career Day from Midfielder Leads Dragons to Victory!

Arnold, MD - Behind a career day from midfielder Cyrus Frid-Denikos (Elkridge, MD/Howard), the Howard Community College Dragons won their second game of the season with a 15-8 victory over Anne Arundel Community College.

The Dragons won their 13th straight game against the Riverhawks behind four goals from Frid-Denikos. Howard's defense clamped down in the second quarter and never relented in the largest victory of the season!

Frid-Denikos, who had his best game of his freshman season against the Riverhawks, opened the scoring one minute into the game off a pass from William Pesce (Derwood, MD/Col. Zadok Magruder). The Riverhawks quickly responded with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead before Pesce stemmed the bleeding with a goal of his own. After another Anne Arundel goal, the Dragons trailed 4-2 with two minutes to go in the quarter. Frid-Denikos scored his second goal of the game to make it a one-goal game entering the second.

The second quarter saw the Dragons defense clamp down, allowing just one Anne Arundel goal. Meanwhile, Howard's talented trio of attackers took control of the game. Pesce, Logan Foust (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron), and John Stubbs (Catonsville, MD/Boys Latin) all scored to make it an 8-5 ball game at the half. Foust and Stubbs both scored early in the third quarter to extend the lead, while midfielders Mitchell Dua (Mount Airy, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and Joshua Gull (Ijamsville, MD/Oakdale) got in on the action with goals of their own. Anne Arundel did get one back when they scored in a man-up situation, but Frid-Denikos immediately responded with his third goal of the game to make it 13-6.

With the game all but settled in the fourth, the Dragons continued to run up the score. Stubbs scored his third goal of the game early in the quarter to make it 14-6, and after Anne Arundel scored two late goals, Frid-Denikos completed his career day with a last-second goal.

Frid-Denikos finished the contest with eight shots, seven shots on goal, four goals, four points, and three ground balls. Logan Foust (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) made seven shots with three shots on goal, three goals, one assist, four points, and two ground balls. John Stubbs (Catonsville, MD/Boys Latin) added three goals, nine shots, three shots on goal, two assists, five points, and five ground balls. William Pesce (Derwood, MD/Col. Zadok Magruder) added six shots, three shots on goal, two goals, three assists, five points, and three gound balls.
