Johnstown, PA - The Howard Community College Dragons softball team finished their fourth regular season in program history with a sweep of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.
The Dragons dominated the Black Bears, allowing just two total runs across the doubleheader. Howard's victories marked their third and fourth consecutive victories, allowing the Dragons to finish the regular season with a 19-22 record/
Game One: Dragons 15, Black Bears 2
Howard jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning and never looked back, scoring 15 runs across just five innings. Howard hit eight extra-base hits, with
Marissa Webb (Hanover, MD/Mount de Sales) going 4-4 with four doubles and four RBIs.
Micah Howell (Columbia, MD/Atholton) dominated the bottom of the lineup, scoring four hits, two doubles, and a triple.
Courtney Johnson (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) had two hits and three runs, while
Cassie Litchfield (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) scored two hits. Despite committing five errors on defense, the Dragons still held the Black Bears to just two runs with
Marissa Webb (Hanover, MD/Mount de Sales) getting her fifth win of the season with four strikeouts.
Game Two: Dragons 4, Black Bears 0
Game two was shortened to just five innings due to heavy rain, allowing the Dragons to take a 4-0 victory. While Howard's offense wasn't as prolific as Game One, they still jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
Marissa Webb (Hanover, MD/Mount de Sales) led the Dragons with two hits and two RBIs, while
Cassie Litchfield (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) continued an excellent series with two hits and an RBI.
Giana Sablan (Hagatna, Guam/Academy of Our Lady of Guam) smacked two hits including a triple, which was one of four extra-base hits by the Dragons. On defense,
Sophia Steele (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) had her best performance of the season on the mound. Steele allowed just one hit with three strikeouts to secure a 7-7 regular season pitching record.
The Dragons next gear up for the Region 20 Tournament, where they will face CCBC Catonsville for the second year in a row. Game one of the series will kick off at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 3.
