FIVE STRAIGHT! Dragons Blank Division I Hagerstown 4-0!

Columbia, MD - For the second straight year, the Howard Community College Dragons men's soccer team has started their season 5-0-0 as they defeated the Hagerstown Community College Hawks 4-0 Thursday afternoon!

The Dragons out-shot the Hawks 18-3 throughout Thursday's game, with four different Dragons finding the net. The win keeps the Dragons atop the Region 20 table as the only undefeated team remaining.

Howard struck first in the 12th minute when Kiar Sani (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church) scored off a deflected pass from Sebastian Fonseca (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills). The latter, making his first start of the season, one-upped himself moments later when he scored off a deep pass from Yeabsira Tesfaye (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church) to make it 2-0. Stiff defense from the Hawks down the stretch kept Howard from extending their lead, keeping the score 2-0 at the half.

Early in the second half, the Dragons finally broke through Hagerstown's defense. After a Hagerstown red card knocked the Hawks down a man, Denny More scored off a pass from Donnie Frayer (Odenton, MD/Annapolis Area Christian) to make it 3-0. Frayer would get his own goal minutes later off a pretty pass from Tesfaye to make the final 4-0.

Mora led the Dragons with six shots and three shots on goal. Tesfaye finished his day with two assists and four shots, while Bryan Barrientos (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) and Kiar Sani (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church) each got off two shots on goal. Jonathan Sanchez (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) recorded his fourth shutout win of the season, only facing a single shot on goal from Hagerstown all day. This was thanks to Howard's rock-solid defensive line, as Alan Gutierrez (Laurel, MD/Reservoir), Bini Gari (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church), Ilia Likakis (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron), and Nicholas Mirecki (Glenelg, MD/Glenelg) shut down the Hawks attack all game long.

Howard next travels to Cumberland to face the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans on Tuesday, September 16 at 5:00 PM.
