Columbia, MD - After suffering their first loss of the season to power-house Mercer County last week, the #20 ranked Howard Community College men's soccer team had something to prove, and they did so emphatically.
In front of a lively home crowd, the Dragons unleashed a scoring frenzy on Carroll Community College, cruising to a 12-0 victory that left no doubt about their ability to bounce back from defeat. It was the most dominant win of the season for Howard, who improved to 8-1-0, and reminded Region 20 and the NJCAA that they're still one of the top contenders.
The Dragons wasted no time in getting on the board. Less than 15 minutes into the match, Kiar Sani (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia/St. Ragueal Church) opened the floodgates with a penalty kick. That goal set the tone for what would become a historic offensive outburst.
By the 40-minute mark, Howard had already built a 9-0 lead, with a few Dragons recording their first goals of the season. Kevin Rubi (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) and Jackson Costell (Ellicott City, MD/Glenelg) scored along with Predrag Ilic (Nis, Serbia/Gymnasium Stevan Sremac), who drilled a deep shot in the top corner of the goal, firing up his teammates in the process.
D.J. Morafa (Lanham, MD/Hammond) not only earned his first goal of the season, but he did even better by recording two on the day along with four shots on goal. Morafa was aggressive throughout the entire match and looked extremely polished.
Howard took a 10-0 lead into halftime, and despite the commanding lead, the Dragons didn't let up. The second half was more of the same precision passing, high pressure on offense, and clinical finishing.
By the time the final whistle blew, Howard had registered their largest margin of victory with 12 goals from 8 different players. The Dragons out-shot Carroll 32-0, and totaled their eighth win of the season.
The Dragons will suit up again on Thursday September 25th, in an away affair versus rival CCBC Catonsville at 5:00 PM.
