Tough Shooting Night Dooms Dragons Against Wolverines

Newark, NJ - A rough night shooting from the floor was the difference maker for the Howard Community College Dragons as they fell 67-50 to the Essex County College Wolverines on Tuesday evening.

Howard shot just 17 of 62 from the floor and made just two of their 15 three-point attempts. Despite this, the Dragons kept Tuesday's game within single digits until the waning moments of the fourth quarter thanks to solid defensive work in the paint. Howard's loss drops the Dragons to 11-9 on the season and snaps a three-game winning streak.

Howard's offense struggled through the first half, scoring just 21 points and shooting just 30% from the field. Despite the offensive struggles, Howard's defense clamped down on the Wolverines, and they only trailed 31-21 by the half. In the third quarter, Howard's offense finally began to click. Aided by solid shooting off the bench from Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom), and the semester debut of London Galbraith (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy) to run the offense, Howard outscored Essex and closed to within six points entering the fourth. Wolverine foul trouble also contributed to the Dragons comeback attempt.

The fourth quarter would open with a Wolverine scoring outburst that all but put the game away. Howard's shooting woes returned, and despite some deep threes from Price, the Dragons finally slipped behind by double-digits.

Price led the Dragons with ten points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals off the bench. Naomi Williams (Odenton, MD/Meade) led the starters with nine points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal. London Galbraith's (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate Academy) first game of the spring semester saw her score nine points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals off the bench, while Jolie Hamilton (Baltimore, MD/Forest Park) scored seven points and six rebounds. Emmanuella Oga (Randallstown, MD/Randallstown) added five points, five rebounds, a block, and three steals. Jasmine Daily scored nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals during a solid defensive night.

Howard next faces Cecil College at home on Wednesday, January 21 at 5:00 PM.
