Bel Air, MD - The Howard Community College Dragons suffered their worst loss of the 2025-26 season last Friday with an 84-66 loss to the Division I Harford Community College Fighting Owls.
Despite out-rebounding the Fighting Owls and forcing more fouls, the Dragons fell victim to eleven three-pointers from the Owls in the worst loss of the season, and worst loss since an 80-55 blowout at the hands of Monroe University last season.
Howard started the evening strong, as both
Myles McDuffie (Baltimore, MD/Lake Clifton) and
Sincere Barfield (Philadelphia, PA/Patterson) were acing their shots. Barfield in particular popped off for eleven points in the first half, and the Dragons kept the score close through the opening ten minutes. But a Harford run saw the Fighting Owls take the lead midway through the half, and a 44-33 halftime lead.
Howard was never able to get back into the contest. While strong play in the paint from
Cedric Harville (Baltimore, MD/Ben Franklin) and
Matt Dalton (Sykesville, MD/Bishop O'Connell), the Dragons lowered the score down to single digits early in the half, only for the Fighting Owls to balloon their lead to 24 points. Howard emptied their bench in the closing minutes as they fell 84-66.
Barfield and McDuffie led the Dragons in scoring, with Barfield scoring 16 points, three assists, and three steals/ McDuffie added 16 points, four rebounds, and a block.
Cedric Harville (Baltimore, MD/Ben Franklin) scored 15 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks in a double-double night.
Juan Bell (Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) added nine points and two assists, while
Kanye McMahon (Lexington Park, MD/Chopticon) scored five rebounds off the bench.
The Dragons next face the College of Southern Maryland Hawks on Wednesday, January 28 at 7:00 PM in another crucial Region 20 showdown.
