Keyser, WV - Daniel Barrett's career day lifted the Howard Community College Dragons over the WVU Potomac State Catamounts in a 4-0 victory Thursday night.
The #11-ranked Dragons out-shot the Catamounts 28-6 and recorded six corners kicks to zero. The win moved the Dragons to 11-1-2 overall and 10-1 in conference play.
Howard would strike first, as
Biruk Yitayew scored off a pass from Barrett in the ninth minute. A stout Potomac State defense kept the score at 1-0 for much of the half until Barrett connected on a shot in the 38th to put the Dragons up 2-0. Potomac State would change goalkeepers following the goal, but that wouldn't stop
Carson Feeser from adding his team-leading 13th goal of the season in the 43rd minute.
Up 3-0 entering the second, the Dragons continued to push against Potomac State. Howard's offense out-shot the Catamounts 14-3 in the half, but only Barrett would connect on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to put Howard up a comfortably 4-0. The second half would prove to be a physical one for both teams, with four yellow cards in the half and six total for the game.
Feeser led the Dragons with ten shots, five shot on goal, and a goal.
Yeabsira Tesfaye had four shots, two shots on goal, and an assist.
Eben Koffi had three shots on goal, while Barrett finished his excellent day with two shots on goal, two goals, and an assist. Yitayew added three shots on goal and a goal, while Alejandro Dealvarez made three saves.
The Dragons return home for the remainder of the regular season, beginning with a showdown against Allegany College of Maryland on Tuesday, October 13 at 2:00 PM.
