This Week in Dragon Country: November 2 - 8

Columbia, MD - After a wild week of crossover between fall and winter sports, Howard Community College athletics will experience a calm week to start November with just three major events.

Men's and women's basketball will take center stage this week, as the women's team continues their dominant start to the season and men's basketball tries to bounce back from a difficult opening weekend.

The action begins Monday night as HCC hosts the HCPSS Volleyball Championships. Reservoir will face Glenelg at 5:00 PM to determine the 2026 champion for Howard County.

Women's basketball begins the weekend's action on Friday as they host Cape Fear Community College at 6:00 PM. The Sea Devils are a solid team with a good resume, having made the Region 10 quarterfinals last season. With a roster stacked with incoming transfers and talented returners, they will pose a big challenge to the Dragons.

Howard is coming off a dominant two-game start to the season, with a 103-51 win over Monroe Community College on Sunday. The Dragons are averaging 93.5 points per game, with true freshman Dallis Stewart averaging 17 points per game to start the year.

Saturday will be a massive day for the Dragons, with three major events at the Kahlert Foundation Complex. The day begins early at 9:00 AM with the second annual Howard Community College Athletics Hall of Fame Breakfast. The Dragons will officially induct three new members into the Hall of Fame. Following the ceremony, the Dragons basketball teams take the court for a doubleheader against Essex County Community College at 12:00 PM.

Women's basketball begins the action at noon against the Wolverines. Essex County brings a strong resume into Columbia, as they finished last season 16-9 in Region 19. Essex County's men's team is coming off an opening day win and looking to continue their strong start against the Dragons. Howard's men's team had a tough start to the 2026-27 season, falling to #13 Monroe Community College on Sunday. Howard will look to rebound this weekend, and with sophomore Kalvyne Eby averaging a double-double, the Dragons are eager to show what they can do.

The weekend wraps up Saturday evening as HCC hosts Washington Adventist University's homecoming basketball doubleheader against Oakwood University at 6:30 PM on November 7.
