Columbia, MD - Homecoming has arrived at Howard Community College, and with it the arrival of winter sports.
This week marks the first week in which the majority of events on the athletic calendar are for winter sports, signaling the official change of athletic seasons. Fall sports are still in action, as men's soccer will begin their postseason voyage over the weekend while men's and women's basketball prepare for the upcoming year.
The action begins on Wednesday, October 21 as men's basketball faces Hood College in Frederick, Maryland at 3:30 PM. This will be the first of three away contests for the Dragons as they prepare for the upcoming season. Howard will also face Frostburg State University on Friday, October 23 at 6:00 PM and Gallaudet University on Saturday, October 24 at 3:30 PM. These scrimmages with four-year opponents will give the Dragons a good idea of where they are as a program.
Women's basketball will also be in full preseason mode this weekend, as they travel to CCBC Essex for the Essex Jamboree. The annual preseason showcase features some of the toughest JUCO programs on the east coast, and is a good chance to test the Dragons' skills against some of the competition they will face this year. Howard will battle the S3 Academy at 5:00 PM for their lone appearance of the showcase.
Softball will complete their preseason action on Friday with an away contest against Morgan State University at 3:30 PM. The Dragons will next take the field in February for their regular season opener on February 26.
To wrap up the week, men's soccer will begin their postseason on Saturday, October 24 at 1:00 PM. Howard will most likely face Cecil College in the first round of the Region 20 tournament, as they look to return to the Region 20 title game for a second-straight season.
