Columbia, MD - For the first time since April 4, 2022, the Howard Community College men's lacrosse team has been named the #1 ranked team in the NJCAA national polls in a unanimous decision. The ranking comes after a busy week in which the Dragons won a pair of games over the weekend against nationally ranked opponents.
The Dragons go into week five of the season with a 6-1 record, with their lone loss coming against then #1 ranked Harford in double overtime. Since that loss, Howard has won five straight games, including wins against #4 ranked Nassau and now #5 ranked DuPage. Howard also won a decisive 18-13 victory over #2 ranked Onondaga, combined with a Harford loss to Onondaga which led to the ranking shuffle.
The action packed weekend also saw head coach
Erik Foust earn his 100th career victory on Saturday in an exciting 12-9 win against Nassau, picking up win 101 a day later in a thrilling double overtime win over the impressive DuPage Chapparells.
The #1 ranked Howard Dragons boast a balanced attack as they surprisingly do not have a single player in the top five for goals in the NJCAA, instead relishing in the fact that they have six different players with double digit goals. The offense is led by
Lukas Rozon (Ottawa, ON/Citadelle) who leads the NJCAA with 43 points (23 goals, 20 assists) along with
Logan Foust (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron)Â who is close behind in third place with 42 points (21 goals, 21 assists).Â
Defensively
Dominic Damico (Eldersburg, MD/Century) and
Evan Tubb (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) are both in the top five for caused turnovers while goalkeeper
Lewis Collora (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) is among the best in the nation with a 10.59 goals allowed average and a 56.9% save percentage.
Marcello Ioco (Romeo, MI/Romeo) is currently second in the NJCAA with 78 won face-offs.
The stage is now set for a rematch on Friday, April 3 at 7 PM under the lights of Harford Community College as the two long time rivals will face off with major playoff implications on the line.Â
