Second Half Surge Not Enough as Dragons Fall in Quarterfinals

Monaca, PA - The 2025-26 season came to an end Tuesday night for Howard Community College, as the Dragons fell in the Region 20 quarterfinals 68-51 to the Community College of Beaver Titans.

Howard entered the game gaining momentum with the first basket coming from Naomi Williams (Odenton, MD/Meade). Williams earned a double double in this match, and was the second leading scorer on the Dragons with twelve points and ten rebounds.  However, the quarterfinal contest quickly turned into a strong shooting first quarter for their opponent. The Titans were able to keep pace through the first quarter, using their perimeter shooting to take the lead. At the end of one, the score read 21-10.

In the second quarter, it was more of the same. Another twenty point quarter for the Titans put the Dragons in a tough spot. A boost from Jolie Hamilton (Baltimore, MD/Forest Park) aided Howard in their efforts to bring this one back. Hamilton was the third leading scorer off the bench with ten points and seven rebounds. Converting three point plays and cleaning up on the glass, Howard found success generating second-chance opportunities, but timely shots by their opponent kept the Dragons from gaining full control. The Dragons were looking at a twenty point hole heading into the half.

The second half was a turn in the right direction for the Dragons, as they outscored the Titans in the final two quarters. Savannah Price (Woodbridge, VA/Freedom) rained down five threes and led the team in scoring, finishing the game with eighteen points and eight rebounds. Though Howard outscored their opponents in the second half, the margins were very narrow. Unfortunately the first half deficit was too large to overcome.

Despite the loss, the Dragons showed grit and competitiveness throughout the contest, with three players reaching double figures, and the team's defensive effort keeping the game tight until the final horn. With the defeat, Howard's season concludes in the Region 20 quarterfinals, marking the end of a campaign defined by determination.
