Arnold, MD - Howard Community College delivered a dominant performance on the road in their penultimate regular season match, rolling past Anne Arundel Community College 31-5 on April 10 at Siegert Field. The Dragons starting trio of attackers combined to score 15 goals against the hapless Riverhawks.
The Dragons (7-2, 1-1) wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for seven first-quarter goals to seize early control. After Anne Arundel briefly tied the game at 1-1, Howard responded with a relentless scoring run, highlighted by multiple goals from
Lukas Rozon (Ottawa, ON/Citadelle) and
William Pesce (Derwood, MD/Col. Zadok Magruder) to build a 7-1 lead after one.
Howard's offense only intensified in the second quarter, pouring in 10 more goals to take a commanding 17-2 halftime advantage. The balanced attack proved too much to handle, as seven different players found the back of the net in the opening half alone.
Rozon led the charge with six goals and three assists, while Pesce added five goals and three assists.
Logan Foust (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) orchestrated the offense with four goals and four assists, and
Joseph McConaghy (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) chipped in two goals and two assists.
The Dragons continued their offensive onslaught in the third quarter, scoring 10 more times to extend the lead to 27-4. Howard finished with 53 total shots and controlled possession throughout, winning the ground ball battle 49-25 and forcing 33 turnovers.
Defensively, Howard was just as sharp, limiting Anne Arundel to 17 shots and only one successful extra-man opportunity. Goalkeepers
Lewis Collora (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) and
Diego Balderrama (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) combined for seven saves in the win.
Anne Arundel was led by Evan Davidson, who scored four of the team's five goals. But he was overshadowed as Howard capped the game with four goals in the final quarter, cruising to the 31-5 victory in one of its most complete performances of the season.
The Dragons will get a week to rest before hosting CCBC Essex in the regular season finale on Friday, April 17 at 4:00 PM. The Knights are currently 6-3 on the season at 1-1 in conference play.
