This Week in Dragon Country: August 24-30

Columbia, MD - Monday, August 24 marks to beginning of classes at Howard Community College, and also marks the start of home contests for the 2026-27 athletic season.

The Dragons' soccer programs will both kick off their home schedules this week with a pair of doubleheaders, while women's volleyball completes their preseason with a tournament in Baltimore.

The week kicks off with a doubleheader against Carroll Community College on Tuesday, August 25. The Dragons' men's team will kick off the day with their home opener at 2:30 PM, followed by the women at 4:30. Howard's men's team went 1-0-1 during the NJCAA Kickoff Classic in Westfield, Indiana last week, which included a 0-0 draw against #5 Northeast Community College. Facing an opponent they've never lost to, the Dragons will be motivated to continue their undefeated streak to start this season.

Howard's women's team heads into this week looking to start the season with a bang, as they are searching for their first program win since a 3-0 victory over Allegany College of Maryland on September 7, 2024. They face a tough test in their opener, as Carroll has been a consistent playoff team since the program's foundation two years ago.

The Dragons return to action on Friday, with men's and women's soccer match ups against Prince George's Community College at 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM respectively. The Owls have proven to be a tough opponent for the Dragons for the last few seasons, having split the men's team in their last two games and beaten the women in their first match up last season.

On Saturday, women's volleyball will wrap up the weekend with a preseason tournament at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland, at 11:00 AM. The Dragons will face four-year institutions Goucher and Stevenson University, as well as Region 20 foes Frederick Community College and Carroll Community College in their final tune-up before the regular season starts next week. Howard went a perfect 3-0 in their first preseason tournament two weeks ago, winning all nine sets they played against Region 20 opponents.

All home games will be streamed on Howard Community College's YouTube page, with live stats links available at the start of the game.
