COLUMBIA, MD — The No. 11-ranked Howard Community College men's soccer team continued its strong start to the season Friday, cruising past Prince George's Community College 6-1.
Howard improved to 3-0-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a dominant offensive performance, scoring five times in the opening 45 minutes before adding another goal in the second half. The Dragons outshot Prince George's 33-12 and put 19 shots on goal.
Yeabsira Tesfaye led the way for Howard with two goals and an assist.
Carson Feeser also scored twice and added an assist, while
Kiar Sani and
Biruk Yitayew each contributed a goal.
Lucas Britos and
Angel Giron-Ramos each recorded an assist, with Yitayew also assisting on Tesfaye's second goal.
Tesfaye opened the scoring in the fourth minute, giving Howard an early 1-0 advantage. Feeser doubled the lead in the ninth minute before scoring again less than two minutes later to make it 3-0.
Sani added Howard's fourth goal in the 22nd minute, with Feeser providing the assist. Prince George's answered in the 29th minute when Abraham Tarawallie scored off an assist from Jose Reyes, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Howard quickly regained its four-goal cushion. Yitayew scored in the 42nd minute on an assist from Giron-Ramos, sending the Dragons into halftime with a 5-1 lead.
The Dragons continued to pressure the Prince George's defense throughout the second half, generating 13 shots and four corner kicks. Tesfaye capped the scoring in the 79th minute, converting a pass from Yitayew for his second goal of the match.
Howard goalkeeper
Alejandro Dealverez played all 90 minutes and made six saves, helping the Dragons limit Prince George's to one goal on 12 shots. Howard also held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Dragons will look to carry the momentum into their next match when they travel to Garrett College on Tuesday, September 8 at 5 PM. Howard enters the matchup ranked No. 11 in the NJCAA Division II national rankings and with a 3-0-1 record on the season.
