COLUMBIA, MD — The Howard Community College women's soccer team battled through rainy conditions Tuesday afternoon but dropped a 6-1 decision to Hagerstown Community College.
Howard kept pace with Hagerstown during a competitive opening half, with the Hawks taking a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. The Dragons answered late in the half when Maeve Daly was fouled in the box and then converted the penalty kick at the 41st mark, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
Hagerstown regained the lead early in the second half, scoring in the 49th minute before adding another goal less than two minutes later to make it 3-1.
The Hawks continued to apply pressure as the half progressed, adding goals in the 62nd, 70th and 72nd minutes to pull away.
Howard goalkeeper Shyann Hansen kept the Dragons within striking distance throughout the contest, making 13 saves on 19 shots on goal. The Dragons were led offensively by Anica Munoz, who registered six shots, including five on goal. Daly finished with two shots and the Dragons' lone goal for her second of the season, while Ashly Dominguez added a shot on target.
Howard finished with nine total shots and seven shots on goal, while Hagerstown recorded 40 shots and 19 shots on goal. The Dragons also earned two corner kicks.
Howard will look to bounce back Thursday, September 24, when the Dragons return home to host Frederick Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM.
