Columbia, MD - Behind a hat trick from
Yeabsira Tesfaye, the Howard Community College Dragons made it back-to-back eight goal games with an 8-0 win over Frederick Community College.
The #11-ranked Dragons built a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes, then ran away with the contest in the second half to win via mercy rule. The win moves Howard to 7-1-1 on the season.
Fresh off an 8-1 win on Tuesday, Howard quickly built another multi-goal lead early against the Cougars. Tesfaye scored first in the fourth minute, then struck again in the seventh.
Carson Feeser added a goal of his own to make it 3-0 before the ten minute mark.
Tesfaye would score once more in the 42nd minute to give him a second-straight hat trick. With the game being relocated to Dragons Turf Field due to field conditions at Dragon Stadium, this gives Tesfaye hat tricks in every game he has played at the secondary location.
Up 4-0 at the half, the Dragons poured on the goals in the second.
Eben Koffi opened the scoring in the 55th minute to make it 5-0.
Kiar Sani scored off a deflection in the 58th, and
Biruk Yitayew sniped in a goal in the 61st to make it 7-0. Koffi's last-minute goal in the 69th made it 8-0 and brought an early end to Thursday's contest.
The Dragons dominated on the stat sheets with 31 shots to just three from Frederick. Sani, Feeser, Yitayew, and
Lucas Britos each recorded five shots, while Tesfaye led the Dragons with four shots on goal. Yitayew had three assists, while Sani and Feeser each recorded two assists. Alejandro Dealvarez had a quiet day in net, making just two saves.
The Dragons next face Anne Arundel Community College in a rematch of last season's Region 20 semifinals on Tuesday, September 29 at 2:00 PM.
