Columbia, MD - Zyon Austin scored 14 kills as the Howard Community College Dragons swept the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Black Bears 3-0 to record their first home win of the season.
Howard narrowly won the first set 28-26 in extra volleys, then dominated set two to score an easy 25-15 win. Despite a late Black Bears comeback attempt, the Dragons held on to win 25-22 in set three and snag their first win at home.
Austin was the star of the show for the Dragons, recording 14 kills and eleven digs.
Diana Feria had her breakout game with seven kills and six digs, while
Amelia Thomas and
Yusra Arenas each recorded four kills.
Abigail Nirola added 25 assists, four aces, and 12 digs.
Defensively, the Dragons were led by 24 digs from
Kira King and six blocks from
Toriana Curry.
Howard takes to the court once more on Saturday, September 26 at 10:00 AM for a showdown with nationally-ranked Butler County Community College and Anne Arundel Community College in a tri-match.
