COLUMBIA, MD — The Howard Community College women's soccer team fell to Anne Arundel Community College 8-0 at the Dragons Lair.
Anne Arundel took control early, scoring less than two minutes into the match when Riley Sheets found the net off an assist from Kat Budowski. The Pioneers added another goal in the 33rd minute before scoring twice in the final three minutes of the first half to take a 4-0 lead into halftime.
Howard goalkeeper Sophia Newman kept the Dragons within reach with a strong first-half performance, recording eight saves before the break. The Dragons also generated six shots in the opening half, including attempts from Gabriela Rodriguez, Caly Smithson, Madison Falby, Evelyn Ortiz Torres and Anica Munoz.
Anne Arundel added four more goals in the second half. Kayley Paugh scored in the 51st minute, followed by goals from Jhoanna Pimentel in the 57th minute and Alyssa Simms in the 62nd minute. Simms completed her hat trick in the 86th minute, with Budowski providing the assist.
Newman finished the match with 21 saves for Howard, while the Dragons totaled 11 shots, with seven on goal. Rodriguez led Howard with four shots, including two on target. Caly Smithson and Ashly Rubi each added one shot on goal, while Anica Munoz recorded two shots.
Howard will look to bounce back Thursday, October 1, when the Dragons travel to Montgomery College for a 5 PM match up.
