Columbia, MD - After a relatively quiet first week of September, the Howard Community College Dragons are ready for one of the busiest weeks of the year.
The Labor Day weekend spills into a packed week of games, with several huge rivalry showdowns for the Dragons' eleventh-ranked men's soccer team. Howard's cross country and volleyball teams will also be in action, with major road trips to close out the week.
The action kicks off Tuesday at 2:30 PM with a rivalry doubleheader for Dragons' soccer against CCBC Catonsville. Sitting just 20 minutes down the road, the Cardinals are Howard's closest rival and always put up a tough fight against the Dragons. The men will kick off the action at 2:30, looking to continue their domination of Region 20 with a third-straight conference win. The women's team then takes the field at 4:30 for a chance at three straight wins themselves. Both games against Catonsville last season were close battles that came down to the wire, so the stage has been set for a fantastic doubleheader.
Wednesday night sees volleyball take center stage with a rivalry showdown against Carroll Community College on the road. The Dragons faced Carroll twice last season, with the Lynx upsetting the Dragons in their homecoming game at the Kahlert Foundation Complex. The Dragons returned the favor, crushing Carroll 3-0 later that season. Once again, the Dragons will travel to Coppermine Pantherplex to face their foe at 6:00 PM. Howard is coming off back-to-back wins to start the season, and will be eager to move to 3-0.
Friday, September 11 will be a big day for the Dragons, as men's and women's soccer host another doubleheader against Harford Community College. The Fighting Owls were the only Region 20 team to come close to beating the Dragons in the regular season last year, tieing them 1-1. Revenge is on the minds of the Dragons as they host the Fighting Owls at 2:30 PM. Women's soccer follows at 4:30 PM.
The week wraps up Saturday with a triple-header of away games. Volleyball travels to Monaca, Pennsylvania for a tri-match against the Community Colege of Beaver County and the College of Southern Maryland. The first tri-match of the season will give the Dragons a good test against some strong conference foes. Cross Country begins their 2026 campaign Saturday, traveling to WVU Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia for the Catamount Invitational. The meet will give the Dragons a good test against regional opponents to begin the season.
