Joel Dearring

Joel Dearring was named the Howard Community College men’s basketball head coach in 2017. 

Dearring was the men’s basketball head coach at Chesapeake College and provided vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of the program.  He was also the assistant coach at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC).  In addition, he was also the boys’ basketball associate head coach at Fairmont Heights High School, where he won a Maryland state championship. 

Joel earned an Associate of Arts degree in general studies from PGCC, a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism at Bowie State University, and a Master’s of Science degree in athletic administration and coaching from Western Kentucky University. 

Dearring’s accomplishments include receiving a Recognition of Distinguish Service award from PGCC and being named a member of PGCC’s Fabulous 50 Alumni.  He was the only community college men’s assistant coach to participate in the NCAA’s "Achieving Coaching Excellence" program in 2007.

Joel resides in Bowie, Maryland.
