Steve Shurman was named assistant coach of the men's soccer team in February 2024.

With a coaching career spanning 30 years, Coach Steve Shurman has left a mark on the local soccer landscape. His coaching journey began at St. Vincent Pallotti High School, where he spent a significant part of his career honing the skills and character of young student-athletes. He also spent time at Beddingfield High School in Wilson, North Carolina where he was recognized as the 2003 North Carolina Regional Coach of the Year.  Recently, while bringing his expertise to a new generation of players, he was recognized for his coaching efforts and work with Ellicott City Soccer Club as recipient of Howard County’s Good Sport Award.

Coach Shurman's impact on the soccer community extends to his role as a senior staff coach with Ellicott City Soccer Club, where he has been a driving force since the club's inception. His commitment to player development and passion for the sport have played a pivotal role in the club's success.

Coach Shurman's leadership extends beyond the field. As the Director of Ellicott City Soccer Club Summer Camps, he has created a dynamic and enriching environment for young athletes to hone their skills and cultivate a love for the game.

His dedication to inclusivity is evident through his involvement in the Ellicott City Soccer Club’s  Special Needs Committee, where he actively contributes to making soccer accessible to individuals of all abilities. Coach Shurman's efforts in this regard showcase not only his coaching prowess but also his commitment to fostering a soccer community that embraces diversity.

Coach Shurman's roots in soccer trace back to his high school days at DeMatha Catholic High School, where he not only played but excelled, earning recognition as an All-County performer. His collegiate soccer journey took him to Salisbury University, where he continued to showcase his skill and passion for the game at the next level.

In addition to his extensive coaching and playing background, Coach Shurman brings 30 years of experience as a classroom teacher and administrator. His understanding of the academic and personal challenges faced by young athletes positions him as a mentor who goes beyond the soccer field, nurturing well-rounded individuals.

Coach Steve Shurman's multifaceted journey in soccer, from player to coach and educator, reflects a profound commitment to the sport and the holistic development of his players. His enduring impact on St. Vincent Pallotti High School, Beddingfield High School, and Ellicott City Soccer Club is a testament to his passion, leadership, and dedication to fostering excellence in both soccer and life.

Coach Shurman holds an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He lives in Catonsville with his wife, Maddie, a local teacher and basketball coach and his three kids.
