Marvin Evans was named the Head Coach of the Howard Community College women’s basketball program in 2017.
In his first year at Howard, Evans and his team were able to add eight new players for the 2017-18 season and maintain a 3.0 team GPA throughout the season.
The Howard women’s program had a historic season in 2018-19 as they won 7 games, after going 0-25 the previous two seasons combined. The seven victories was the third most wins in the last 20 years for the women’s program. The 2018-19 season also saw the arrival of arguably the best player in Howard history. Coach Evans recruited, trained, and mentored Sabreen Muslim; who is the first player in Howard history to lead the country in rebounds (16.5 RPG), and the Md Juco conference in both points (23.5 PPG) and rebounds. Sabreen finished her stellar career with 642 points which is the most in Howard history. She earned an athletic scholarship to continue her basketball career at Wilmington University.
Coach Evans began his coaching career at Cardin High School in Baltimore, Md as the Head Boys Varsity basketball coach from 2008-2011. After three successful years, Coach Evans accepted the Head Girls Varsity Basketball coaching job at C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air, MD. There he guided the program to a complete turnaround effort, taking a team that had only won three games the previous year and winning 19 games as well as the UCBAC Susquehanna league title in his first season. Coach Evans spent three years (2011-2014) guiding the CMW Mustangs before his transition to the college level where he began at Anne Arundel Community College as an assistant coach. Coach Evans has also coached at two local NCAA DIII colleges (Stevenson University 2015-16-Head WBB Club Coach and Goucher College 2016-17 WBB Assistant Coach). Coach Evans is a National Certified Personal Trainer (NCCPT), a HSAA Camp/Showcase Director, as well as, an active member of the WBCA organization.
Coach Marvin Evans played collegiately at Western Connecticut State University from 2000-2004 where he served as a team captain from 2002-04. During that time, WCSU made 2 NCAA appearances, won 2 Little East Conference titles and 1 ECAC tournament championship. Coach Marvin Evans was twice named 1
st team LEC, earned the ECAC tournament MVP as well as LEC player of the year (2003-04). In 2011 Evans was named to the LEC 25-year Anniversary team, honoring the top players in the conference 25-year history. Evans graduated Western Connecticut in 2004 with a Bachelors degree in Social Work and is currently ranked 14
th on the school’s All-time scoring list (1285 pts) and 4
th on the rebounding list (717 Rebs).
