Women's Basketball Starts Season 2-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
First year HCC women's basketball coach Maureen Shacreaw and her long-time assistant coach John Engelkemier got the new look Dragons team off to a great start to their season as they won both of their first two games playing at the Montgomery College Tip-Off Tournament. HCC was able to fight for a tough 82-78 win over Columbus State CC and then cruised to a 66-44 against Bergen CC. The Dragons were playing with just 6 players as they look to get a trio of key players back from injury with the hope that two of them will be active for their next game.
The first game in particular was very exciting as Dragons 3-sport star Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) scored 32 points including a 14-16 from the free throw line performance. Following closely behind Coughlin was Sam Heisig (Glenelg, MD, Glenelg HS) with 21 points and Lauren Thompson (Columbia, MD, Oakland Mills HS) with 20 points as the team shot 34-42 from the free throw line and 47% from the field.
The Dragons will host NOVA CC on Tuesday night before hosting the women's basketball Dragon Invitational this weekend as they face Hostos CC on Saturday and CCBC Catonsville on Sunday.
