Frederick's Big 4th Quarter Leads to Win Over Dragons

The Howard CC Dragons suffered just their first conference loss and second of the season as they fell to Frederick CC 87-76. The Dragons fell to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference.

The Dragons had the lead throughout the first 3 quarters of the game, but a huge 4th quarter by the Cougars saw them score 36 in the final stanza to pull away from the home team. The 2nd half charge by the Cougars was led by sharpshooting Tia Byrd who scored 33 points including 6-13 from three point range as well as Shalyn Washington with 13 points, 17 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 blocks.

HCC was in foul trouble for most of the game and lost a key component when Sam Heisig (Glenelg, MD, Glenelg HS) picked up her 4th foul late in the 3rd quarter and then fouled out in the 4th finishing with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) put in another great day of work as she scored 21 points along with 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 steals. Knowlej Thomas (Columbia, MD, Mt. Hebron HS) added 16 points which is her highest amount for a game this season. Ebony Anderson (Baltimore, MD, Catonsville HS) had her second straight game of big production as she added 13 points and 9 rebounds along with 2 blocks.

The Dragons will get to enjoy a long break as their next game isn't until January 6th where they travel to Anne Arundel, tip-off scheduled for 5 PM.
